HW Studios, London (UK)

“Canvas Studios stands as the heart of the  development, offering artists a space to craft and define their own creative environments.”

Introduction

Hackney Wick Studios approached The Studio to create a concept design for the HW building to maintain the influence of studio spaces and the opportunity of a commercial addition to keep up with the developing area and neighbouring Hackney Wick station.

Approach

HW Studios | Street-level render of the studio complex, demonstrating contextual architecture that blends with Hackney Wick’s industrial character.

The Studio  planned and analysed to create a concept design for the HW building, ensuring we preserved the influence of studio spaces within the area by creating a series of canvas spaces which intertwined into a folding envelope, whilst maintaining the rustic and historic warehouse atmosphere.  The way to make a commercially viable while keeping the ground floor courtyard was about extruding upwards.

Our design utilised the LLDC masterplan extensively to create a thriving and affordable workspace that ensures the continued growth of the local creative economy of Hackney Wick.
